Imagine how easier life would be if we could overcome conditions like Alzheimer’s and Dementia even in old age, or prevent them before they started to take shape?
However, to do that, we have to be able to understand and create new brain cells. This is where brain organoids steps in.
It is a new method for growing human brain cells which could potentially unlock the mysteries that are preventing us from treating dementia, mental illness, and various other neurological disorders.
Currently, stem cell researchers, scientists, and engineers at Institute of Molecular Biotechnology and Massachusetts General Hospital are working on developing brain cells and eventually a neuron. This was considered impossible before.
With a neuron in hand, scientists can easily see how our human brain cells develop, grow, and function, and how various body hormones and chemicals affect and modify their function.
With time scientists could model organoids to resemble a person’s brain cells, allowing them to model if we are susceptible to problems, and how to prevent or overcome them.
