Hurricane Irene is regarded as the 7^th most costly hurricane in the history of the United States. It struck during the 2011 season of Atlantic hurricanes and was a Category 3 Major Hurricane. It was the first major hurricane of 2011 and it caused massive destruction along its path.

Hurricane Irene resulted in around 56 deaths and caused more than $16.5 billion in damages. The people in the area where it made landfall are still recovering from the damage caused by this hurricane. This image taken from space shows the path of Hurricane Irene as it moves slowly towards landfall.
