Driving around the holidays is what nightmares are made of. No one wants to do it but for some reason thousands hit the road to endure hours of traffic followed by hours of unwanted conversation with distant relatives. While people were returning home from the holiday weekend in 1991 on California’s I-5, the winds reached a whopping 40 mph. This led to a pile up that amounted in over 100 cars piling up and taking over a mile of the highway. This left not only 17 people dead and 150 others injured, but also thousands more trapped on the highway as crews worked endlessly to clean up the mess.
